Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire because it could start the path to ending the war with Russia. There is no talk of freezing the conflict.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha on Facebook.

He noted that in the joint statement with the United States, Ukraine took a step “ahead of the curve,” which proves that it is ready to move toward a just end to the war.

“Ukraine is not an obstacle to peace; it is a partner in its restoration. This is what happens when allies speak – openly, sincerely and to the point,” the head of the MFA added.

Sibiga specified that the issue is about a 30-day ceasefire, which can be established if Russia agrees to such a step. The American side will now discuss this issue with the Russians.

Why is this temporary ceasefire important? Because this is not about a frozen conflict. It is about trying to start the path to ending the war in a fair way. It is also a step that demonstrates who is really interested in peace ,” the Foreign Minister explained.

Cease-fire

Let us recall that during negotiations with the US in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine agreed to a proposal that provides for a ceasefire with Russia for 30 days.

At the same time, the joint statement of the two countries stated that such a regime could be extended if Kyiv and Moscow agree.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that if Russia agrees to a ceasefire, “silence will begin immediately.”
