A man was shot dead in the center of Odessa on Friday, March 14. Activist Demyan Ganul was killed.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to the Odessa region police.
The police press service did not name the deceased. According to RBC-Ukraine sources, activist Demyan Ganul was shot dead in Odessa.
According to law enforcement officials, an unknown man shot at a passerby in the Primorsky district of Odessa. The message was received by the special hotline 102 at about 10:30.
The attacker fled the scene of the crime. All the circumstances of the crime are being established by the investigative task force of the territorial police unit and forensic experts.
“Efforts are being made to detain the shooter. Details will follow,” the police statement said.
What is known about the murdered man?
Demian Ganul is an activist from Odessa, participated in actions in support of Ukraine and repeatedly held charity collections for the military. In particular, he advocated for the dismantling of Soviet monuments, in particular to the Russian Empress Catherine and the like.

In May 2023, Ganul reported being beaten by allegedly “unknown military personnel.” The network also reported several scandals related to the activist. It was noted that in 2023, law enforcement officers stopped Ganul's car and found weapons in the car. There was also information about several accidents involving the activist.
In July 2024, an Odessa activist claimed that Russian resources had leaked personal information about his relatives online and promised a reward of up to 10 thousand dollars for an attack on him. He asked the SBU to provide him with protection.
Let us recall that in February, a shooting took place in Odessa. As the police reported, during the conflict, a man sprayed tear gas in the face of one of the TCC soldiers and fired several shots in his direction.
Also at the end of January, there was a shooting in a cafe in Kyiv. According to law enforcement, a conflict occurred between a 68-year-old man and other visitors. One of the participants shot at the elderly man, who was hospitalized.
