The Ministry of Education and Science (MES) of Ukraine recommends that schools hold spring break this year from March 24 to 30. However, the final decision on the dates is made by the educational institutions themselves.
RBC-Ukraine reports on this.
Due to martial law and the specific nature of the educational process, schools may adjust their vacation schedules, taking into account the security situation, weather conditions, the level of illness, or other circumstances. In some cities, changes are possible even within one locality.
Here's when schoolchildren from different cities and regions will go on vacation:
- Kiev – holidays will begin on March 25 and last until March 31.
- Ternopil – students will go on vacation from March 22 and return to school on March 30.
- Zhitomir – holidays are planned for the last ten days of March, the exact dates depend on the epidemiological and security situation.
- Kropyvnytskyi – most schools will have holidays from March 24 to 30, but 13 schools in the city will not have holidays due to the long winter holidays.
- Sumy – holidays for most schoolchildren in the Sumy community will last from March 31 to April 6.
- Nikolaev – the holiday will last from March 24 to 30.
- Khmelnitsky – due to the high incidence of influenza, the holidays were postponed to the beginning of March (March 3-9).
- Ivano-Frankivsk – the Department of Education recommended holidays from March 24 to 30, but dates may vary depending on the school.
- Odessa – holidays will take place from March 24 to 30.
- Lutsk – holidays from March 23 to March 30.
- Lviv – most schools will have a holiday from March 24 to 28, but some institutions have chosen dates from March 18 to 21.
- Dnepr – holidays will last from March 31 to April 6.
- Kharkiv – recommended dates: March 24-30, but individual schools may change dates.
- Rivne – holidays from March 22 to 30, lasting 9 days.
- Chernivtsi – vacation is tentatively planned from March 24 to 30.
- Cherkassy – there will be no spring break this year due to the long winter holidays.
- Poltava – holidays will last from March 22 to March 30.
- Uzhgorod – holidays from March 24 to 30, however some schools may change dates due to academic workload.
Let us recall that a new curriculum for high school students is being developed in Ukraine, which will provide more opportunities for choosing subjects and reduce the academic workload. However, there have already been many misunderstandings regarding these changes. RBC-Ukraine tells what innovations await students in grades 10-12 and which subjects will remain mandatory.
We also wrote that the Verkhovna Rada plans to consider bill No. 13072, which aims to create a Ukrainian-language educational space in educational institutions. According to the document, the use of the Russian language will be prohibited not only during lessons, but also outside of school hours – during breaks, in corridors, cafeterias and even in shelters.
When writing the material, the following sources were used: comments from city and regional councils, education departments for “UP. Zhittya” and “Suspilne”.
