Have you ever Googled yourself? MigNews will share instructions on how to do this quickly and effortlessly on your own.
Why would you even want to delete Google search results about you?
There are many reasons why other people might type your name into a Google search, from old school friends wanting to connect with you to potential employers wanting to know about your hiring. If someone else is looking for you, you want the information about you to be accurate.
However, you may not want to be found at all, or you may think that your personal information could be used for nefarious purposes. If you would rather not correct your results, but rather delete them from Google, that is also possible. This is easiest to do in a desktop web browser, although similar options are available on the mobile version of Google.
What Google can do
Google's search removal tools are designed primarily to protect your privacy and sensitive information that you don't want the world to know about. For example, if you see that your phone number or home address has become public, you can take steps to remove it.
According to Google, this list of sensitive information can also include Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, credit card information, health records, copies of your handwritten signature, and sensitive login information. If you don't want this kind of information to appear in search, Google lets you do something about it.
These tools are not designed to censor or edit Google search results – for example, if you’ve been in the news and don’t want the publicity, or you’d rather your LinkedIn page rank higher than your Instagram page. These aren’t changes you can tell Google to make.
In addition to personal privacy, there are a few other reasons you might want to ask Google to remove results from your list. If the information in those results is outdated, or if you have a legal reason to remove a web link (such as copyright infringement). When you request the link to be removed, you'll be asked to provide a reason for your request.
It's important to note that these processes do not remove the information from the Internet. The pages in question will simply stop showing up in Google's search results, making it harder for other people to find them. To have this data removed from the Internet, you must contact the site hosting it or take action against it.
How to delete Google search results about you
There are a few ways to initiate a removal request. The first is to run a Google search for your name. Click on the three dots next to any result that appears on the screen and select “Remove Result” in the panel on the right.
You can then choose a reason for requesting removal. The first option is “It shows my personal information, and I don’t want it there.” Click on this option and you’ll be able to specify the type of information you want to display, then confirm that you don’t want to see it in search results. Just follow the instructions to make your request.
You can also select “I have a legitimate request to remove,” which will take you to a separate page where you can state the reasons for your request, or select “This is out of date and I want to request an update” – in the latter case, you simply click “Request Update” and you're done, no need to fill out the form again. Note: Google results usually show the most up-to-date version of a web page. But sometimes an outdated version appears and you need to ask Google to look at the page again.
Alternatively, you can go directly to Google's support page for removing results and click the Start a removal request button. This will give you all the options we've already discussed, plus a few more. For example, you can remove results that contain explicit or illegal material, even if they're not directly related to you.
Once your request has been made, Google will contact you by email. You will receive an email confirming that your request has been made and what action (if any) has been taken. If additional information is needed to better assess your request, Google will request it by email.
