A conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is expected next week.

This was stated by the US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to an interview with CNN.

When asked by a reporter about the time frame for the agreement, specifically whether it would take weeks or possibly months, Witkoff responded that President Trump uses the term “weeks” and he does not intend to argue with him.

Witkoff also expressed hope that real progress will be made on this issue in the near future.

“I think everyone should focus on the progress that has been made since the president was inaugurated. No one expected such rapid progress,” he said.

The special envoy also added that the situation with the war in Ukraine is extremely difficult, but, according to him, the United States is still closing the gap between the two sides.

“There are still a lot of issues to discuss, but I think the two presidents will have a really good and constructive conversation this week ,” he said.

Witkoff's visit to Moscow

Let us recall that on March 13, Witkoff was sent to Moscow to convey to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. Let us note that this is already Steve Witkoff's second visit to Russia.

It should be noted that, according to Western media, the US President's special envoy waited eight hours to meet with Putin, who in the meantime was meeting with the self-proclaimed leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.

His visit was planned after US-Ukrainian talks in Saudi Arabia on March 11, during which a 30-day ceasefire on the front in Ukraine was agreed upon. The US also resumed military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
