Mercedes-Benz is starting to use humanoid robots and new artificial intelligence software at its manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Europe to streamline processes, improve efficiency and save money.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of Mercedes-Benz.

Apollo robots from the US company Apptronik and artificial intelligence software from Google DeepMind are currently being tested at the carmaker's Digital Factory Campus at the plant in Berlin.

Apollo, a bipedal humanoid robot designed to mimic human actions, is being tested for logistics tasks – transporting components and assisting workers on a production line.

Unlike traditional industrial robots that are fixed in place and perform repetitive tasks, Apollo can move around the factory floor and perform a variety of non-repetitive functions, speeding up manufacturing processes.

Google's DeepMind-powered software will employ two new AI models: Gemini Robotics and Gemini Robotics Extended Reasoning. Both models are powered by Gemini 2.0, which Google describes as its most powerful AI model to date.

Automation processes enhanced by artificial intelligence are deployed in quality control and production monitoring systems, where assistants can analyze production anomalies, identify defects and optimize work processes.

“AI takes over the tasks we enjoy less, giving us time to focus on the activities that add value. That's a huge efficiency gain,” Burzer said.
