Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said Beijing was investigating the situation. He limited himself to commenting that its citizens had been asked to stay away from armed conflict zones.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission to discuss this fact and demand an explanation.

Adviser to the head of the Presidential Office Mykhailo Podolyak suggested in a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine that China will react harshly to such cases, since it is unlikely to want to get involved in a war. Since this could negatively affect economic and political interests, in particular in the context of global trade relations with Europe and the United States.
