The incident occurred during a presentation where the robot was secured with a safety tether attached to its head — a common precaution during public tests. However, this setup interfered with the robot’s balance stabilization algorithms, which were designed to operate with unrestricted movement.
As a result, the program failed to make the necessary adjustments, leading to uncontrolled actions by the robot. According to Unitree, the malfunction was due to a technical error related to either incorrect sensor calibration or software configuration.
The company assured that steps are being taken to prevent similar issues in the future. A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, garnering millions of views and sparking widespread discussion among users.
