Italian aircraft interior manufacturer Aviointeriors has unveiled an updated version of its standing seat model, Skyrider 2.0, which could be introduced on commercial flights by 2026. These saddle-like seats are designed to keep passengers in a semi-upright position, allowing airlines to increase cabin capacity by up to 20%, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing Daily Mail.

Originally presented in 2010, the Skyrider concept did not receive approval at the time. However, the revamped Skyrider 2.0 now features enhanced padding and reinforced mountings that meet modern aviation safety standards. The seats are intended for short-haul flights lasting no longer than two hours.

According to Aviointeriors representatives, the redesigned seating system maximizes cabin space without requiring major modifications to aircraft structures. Notably, low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and Colombia’s VivaColombia have already expressed interest in testing and potentially implementing the technology.
