US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has played a pivotal role in persuading President Donald Trump to adopt a firmer foreign policy line toward Russia, China, Iran, and Venezuela, reports Baltimore Chronicle citing Financial Times.
During his tenure as a senator, Rubio was a vocal advocate for US foreign aid and viewed American diplomacy as a force for global good. He consistently emphasized the importance of confronting dictators and supporting dissidents opposing authoritarian regimes.
Now serving as Secretary of State, Rubio aligns with Trump’s isolationist stance and his aim to reduce foreign aid. However, according to a former aide and close associate of Rubio, the official has not abandoned his core values. On the contrary, his advocacy has helped shift Trump toward a more assertive posture on global affairs.
“In matters involving China, Russia, Ukraine, and Iran, there’s a noticeable increase in US diplomatic activity and a reaffirmation of America’s role in the world,” the source stated. He added that this shift is largely due to “the high-level counsel the Secretary provides daily to the President and the rest of the administration.”
