In the next six weeks, Ukraine will receive new ERAM missiles, significantly enhancing its defense capabilities. As reported by Baltimore Chronicle, citing sources from The Wall Street Journal, this concerns the sale of 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles to Ukraine, capable of hitting targets at ranges between 240 and 450 kilometers. According to the sources, this decision will be an important step in strengthening the Ukrainian military on the front lines.
The total value of the delivery package is estimated at $850 million, with a significant portion of the amount being covered by European allies of Ukraine. An official announcement regarding the delivery has not yet been made. The agreement had been on hold for some time, partly due to negotiations between U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Despite the approval of the deal, sources from The Wall Street Journal note that the use of the new missiles will be controlled by the Pentagon. The U.S. retains the ability to approve how Ukraine will deploy these missile systems.
In addition to the ERAM missiles, the package also includes air defense systems and GMLRS rockets with a range of up to 145 kilometers. These will help enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities within its own territory and provide additional protection against Russian attacks.
