Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office arrested an 18-year-old man and recovered a loaded ghost gun during a traffic stop in Leonardtown, Maryland. The arrest took place on Friday as part of the department’s proactive enforcement operations, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to 5News.
According to investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division, detectives were conducting surveillance in the 21000 block of Colton Point Road in Avenue, Maryland, on October 17, when they observed a man, later identified as 18-year-old Omari Miles of California, holding what appeared to be a firearm. Patrol deputies were called to assist and subsequently stopped a gold SUV in the 22000 block of Duke Street in Leonardtown.
During the search of the vehicle, deputies discovered a loaded Polymer 80 9mm handgun fitted with an extended 40-round magazine. The weapon was identified as a ghost gun — a firearm without a serial number, making it difficult to trace.
Miles was immediately taken into custody and charged with several firearm-related offenses, including carrying and transporting a handgun on his person and in a vehicle, possessing a loaded firearm on public roads, illegal possession of an unserialized firearm, and possession of a regulated firearm while under the age of 21.
Authorities confirmed that Miles was booked into the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, where he is currently being held without bond.
