Travelers planning Thanksgiving trips should prepare for winter weather disruptions, with lake-effect snow and storms affecting key regions, повідомляє Baltimore Chronicle.

On Tuesday, a winter storm watch is in effect for North Dakota and Minnesota, where 3 to 9 inches of snow could accumulate from Monday night into Wednesday morning. Wind gusts may reach up to 40 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow, which may impact road conditions. The East Coast from Washington, D.C., to Boston will see rain during the afternoon and evening hours.

Wednesday will bring scattered showers to the Northeast, particularly from Washington, D.C., to New York City in the morning. Meanwhile, snow will begin across much of Michigan, marking the start of a wintry pattern in the Midwest.

On Thanksgiving Day, lake-effect snow will intensify across areas downwind of the Great Lakes, continuing through Friday. Winter storm watches are active for towns such as Orchard Park, New York, just south of Buffalo, with more than six inches of snow expected. Wind gusts up to 45 mph could create whiteout conditions and hazardous travel.

By Friday, a new storm system is projected to move east from the Pacific Northwest, bringing snow to the Plains, including the Dakotas and northern Missouri. On Saturday, rain may affect regions from Missouri to Louisiana, while snow continues in parts of Illinois and Michigan, including major cities such as Chicago and Detroit.

The storm system is expected to advance eastward by Sunday, bringing rain to much of the East Coast. Sunday is anticipated to be the busiest day for air travel during the Thanksgiving holiday, potentially complicating travel plans further.
