Brian Walshe was convicted of first-degree murder for killing and dismembering his wife Ana Walshe. Sentencing is scheduled Thursday in Massachusetts.

Brian Walshe is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday after a Massachusetts jury found him guilty of murdering and dismembering his wife, Ana Walshe, the mother of their three children, Baltimore Chronicle. Ana Walshe, 39, went missing on January 1, 2023, and her body has never been recovered.

The 50-year-old Walshe had previously pleaded guilty to improper disposal of a body and lying to authorities following Ana’s disappearance but maintained that he did not kill her. A Norfolk County jury reached a verdict of first-degree murder on Monday after approximately six hours of deliberation over two days. He faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

During the two-week trial in Dedham, Massachusetts, Brian Walshe did not testify, and his defense did not call witnesses. Defense attorneys argued that he discovered his wife dead on New Year’s Day 2023 and panicked, lying to police during their investigation. Prosecutors countered that Walshe premeditatedly murdered and dismembered Ana, disposing of her remains in dumpsters. Evidence included internet searches on his devices from January 1, 2023, such as “best way to dispose of a body” and “how long for someone to be missing to inherit.”

Surveillance footage presented in court showed a man believed to be Walshe purchasing tools and supplies at a Lowe’s on the day of Ana’s disappearance, including a hacksaw, utility knife, hammer, snips, Tyvek suit, shoeguards, rags, and cleaning materials totaling $462 in cash. Additional footage captured trash bags being discarded in dumpsters in early January 2023. Forensic analysis linked several blood-stained items recovered from dumpsters, including a hacksaw, a rug piece, a towel, hairs, and an unidentified tissue, to Ana Walshe through DNA testing.

Ana Walshe had been reported missing by her employer on January 4, 2023. At the time, Walshe told police she had a “work emergency” in Washington, D.C., and left their Cohasset, Massachusetts, home on New Year’s Day. Testimony during the trial included statements from a D.C. man with whom Ana was having an affair, revealing marital stress and her frustration at being separated from her children, who were 2, 4, and 6 years old. Brian Walshe and the children were living in Massachusetts while he awaited sentencing for a federal fraud case involving counterfeit Andy Warhol paintings, for which he was ultimately sentenced to 37 months in prison.
