(WJW) – As dangerously cold weather sweeps across Northeast Ohio, over 100 school districts have canceled classes on Friday, Jan. 23, ahead of potentially heavy snow this weekend, reports Baltimore Chronicle via the list. Districts continue to update closures as conditions worsen.
Elyria City Schools confirmed on social media Thursday evening that all district schools would remain closed on Friday due to extreme cold and subzero wind chills. The district advised parents and guardians to contact coaches or advisors for updates on afterschool activities or weekend events. “If your student has an afterschool activity scheduled for tomorrow or an event this weekend, please contact your coach or advisor to confirm whether that activity will still take place. Thank you, and please stay warm and safe!” the post stated.
Lorain City School District also announced a full closure of all schools and district offices on Friday. The district emphasized that student and staff safety remains the top priority.
The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory covering Sandusky, Erie, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Huron, Medina, Summit, Portage, Trumbull, Richland, Ashland, and Stark counties. The advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday, with wind chills expected to reach as low as 15 degrees below zero, according to the FOX 8 weather team.
School administrators across the region continue to monitor conditions closely and provide real-time updates to families as subzero temperatures and strong winds persist.
