Current Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal is expected to transition to the post of Minister of Defense, while First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko is poised to take over as head of government, reports the Baltimore Chronicle citing sources within the Cabinet, the President’s Office, and the Verkhovna Rada.
Should Svyrydenko assume the role of prime minister, the Ministry of Economy will likely be handed over to the current first deputy minister, Oleksii Sobolev.
A majority of the current Cabinet members are expected to remain in office. According to sources, the following officials are likely to keep their positions:
- Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration – Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba, who may be promoted to First Deputy Prime Minister;
- Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna;
- Deputy Prime Minister for Innovations – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov;
- Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko;
- Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko;
- Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha;
- Minister for Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin;
- Minister of Youth and Sports Matvii Bednyi;
- Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Hrynchuk;
- Minister for Veterans Affairs Nataliia Kalmykova.
Some officials are certain to step down, according to insiders:
- Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov, who is expected to become Ukraine’s new ambassador to the United States;
- Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for National Unity Oleksii Chernyshov, whose newly established ministry may be dissolved;
- Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovych, with a successor currently being selected;
- Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, who may be replaced by his current deputy Andrii Vitrenko;
- Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochytskyi, whose replacement has not yet been determined.
The future roles of Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitalii Koval, Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko, and Minister of Health Viktor Liashko remain unclear at this time.
