Ukraine severs diplomatic relations with Nicaragua after its recognition of Russia’s control over occupied Ukrainian territories, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced.

Ukraine has officially cut diplomatic ties with the Republic of Nicaragua following Managua’s recognition of Russia’s claim over occupied Ukrainian territories. The announcement was made by Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha on social media platform X, reports Baltimore Chronicle citing his statement.

According to Sybiha, the government in Kyiv decided to take this step in response to Nicaragua’s recognition of Russia’s so-called “sovereignty” over Ukraine’s temporarily occupied regions. This includes the territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as well as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The Foreign Minister stressed that Ukraine views Managua’s decision as a deliberate move to undermine the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that such actions constitute a grave violation of the Ukrainian Constitution, the Charter of the United Nations, and the fundamental principles of international law.
