The Russian strike on the railway station and a passenger train in Shostka, Sumy region, has once again highlighted Moscow’s systematic targeting of Ukraine’s civilian population. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that the European Union continues to stand with Ukraine as its citizens suffer again from actions she described as Russian barbarism. She noted that footage from the Shostka railway station shows the reckless and ongoing willingness of Russia to attack civilians, disregarding international law and humanitarian norms.
The Commission President also highlighted that the EU and its partners will continue to maintain pressure on Russia to force its regime toward a fair and lasting peace settlement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania also condemned Russia’s actions. The ministry stated that the drone strike on Shostka was deliberate, directly targeting passengers and railway personnel. Lithuania described the attack as “a blatant act of terror,” which further confirms Russia’s status as a state systematically violating international law and responsible for war crimes.
