Venezuela has decided to close its embassy in Oslo following the announcement that opposition leader María Machado has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The decision was confirmed by Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to NRK.
According to Norwegian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Cecilie Roang, Oslo received an official notification from the Venezuelan embassy stating that it would cease operations. The embassy did not provide any explanation for its decision. Roang described the move as regrettable, emphasizing that despite differing views on several issues, Norway remains committed to maintaining an open dialogue with Venezuela and will continue efforts to strengthen diplomatic communication.
Until its closure, the Venezuelan Embassy in Oslo also served as a diplomatic mission for Venezuelan citizens residing in Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Iceland. The shutdown is expected to affect not only bilateral relations but also the provision of consular services to Venezuelans living in these Nordic countries.
