In the Carpathian region, surgeons performed military reconstruction of a damaged nerve for the first time

Photo In the Carpathian region, the regional clinical hospital (RCH) began performing cable nerve repair. The soldier underwent reconstruction of the damaged nerve.

The KNP OKL of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council reported this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

“The regional clinical hospital began performing cable nerve repair. A wounded soldier had his damaged portion of the peroneal nerve reconstructed using the healthy nerve. If previously patients with such injuries were sent to Kyiv, where reconstructive operations, for example, are performed at the Institute of Neurosurgery, now it is possible to carry them out locally,” the OKL statement says.

According to their information, military man Andrei is in the hospital with a wound in the knee area of his right leg.

«The patient had a ruptured common peroneal nerve and was missing 3 cm. This nerve is responsible for raising the foot, straightening the toes and for abducting the foot to the side. We took another nerve, less needed in the body – severe, from the shin. And grafts were made from it, with the help of which they restored the anatomy of that nerve,” explained surgeon Nikolai Filippov. It is noted that cable plastic – – one of the most difficult operations on peripheral nerves. After all, a neurosurgeon can sew a nerve dissection, but when there is no piece of nerve, when time has passed – this is already a reconstruction, and therefore a more complex operation.

As the agency reported, in the Carpathian region, surgeons restored the face of a military man after severe injuries.
