The first heart transplant was performed in Bukovina

Chairman of the Chernivtsi Regional Council Oleksiy Boyko reported this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

“A heart transplant was performed for the first time in the Chernivtsi region. It was carried out at the regional clinical hospital. The heart of a 44-year-old woman was transplanted into a 45-year-old patient from Lvov, Boyko said in a statement.

The head of the medical council noted that the operation #39;connection of Lviv.

"The patient came with doctors to Chernivtsi, where specialists performed organ removal and transplantation. He had previously suffered from myocarditis and his heart function was very low, which was life-threatening at any time. Now the man is in a Lviv institution, according to doctors, the postoperative period is going well, the heart is working,” Boyko added.

According to him, the donor was a 44-year-old woman who was declared brain dead. She agreed during her lifetime to the use of organs for donation in the event of sudden death, so the husband carried out his wife’s will. The organs entered the EGIST system, which distributed them among recipients. In addition to her heart, the woman’s kidneys were removed. One of them was transplanted by specialists from the Chernivtsi Regional Clinical Hospital to a patient from Ternopil. She is recovering, indicators indicate that the kidney is working.

This is the sixth transplant at the medical institution, Boyko added. transplanted a patient in Lvov. The operation was also successful.

The Chairman of the Chernivtsi Regional Council expressed condolences to the family of the deceased female donor and thanked for such an important decision, which made it possible to save people.

As reported, a one-year-old boy was operated on in Odessa with a rare cardiac anomaly – three atria. So far the child is feeling well.
