The incidence of scarlet fever is growing in the Odessa region

In Odessa region, there has been an increase in the incidence of scarlet fever, since the beginning of this year, 61 cases have been registered among children, one of them is fatal.

The Odessa Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported this on Facebook, reports Ukrinform.

As noted, the increase in incidence is associated with the next cyclical rise.The last one was registered in 2014. Then 355 people fell ill.

In 2023, 182 cases of scarlet fever were recorded, which is 2.6 times more than in 2022 -m. Mostly children under 17 years old (97%) were sick. The most vulnerable among them was still the age group – 5-9 years (56%).

Cases of scarlet fever were identified in almost all administrative territories.

The center reminds that scarlet fever is an acute infectious disease caused by streptococci. It manifests itself as intoxication, purulent lesions of the tonsils of the oropharynx and a characteristic rash.

There is no specific treatment for scarlet fever. The diagnosis is based on epidemiological data, characteristic clinical picture and laboratory tests.

Isolation for the disease up to 24 hours after receipt first dose of antibiotic. If an antibiotic was not prescribed, isolation should continue for 21 days.

As Ukrinform reported, a case of tetanus was recorded in the Cherkasy region. The patient was a 13-year-old girl who did not have the appropriate vaccination.
