The majority of the Ukrainian refugees living in the refugee center were not vaccinated against measles.
The head of the department of medical and social assistance, Vladimir Bolokan, told Radio Liberty, Ukrinform reports.
«We cannot find out the vaccination status of these people because they do not have documents and they do not want to report whether they were vaccinated or not. From conversations it turned out that only one family was vaccinated – had a trip to Germany, where they were required to get vaccinated, – he informed.
As noted, three Ukrainians who were confirmed to have measles were hospitalized. The disease was discovered in children aged 5, 12 and 17 years. Their condition is stable and they are receiving appropriate treatment.
Seven more people are awaiting laboratory results. They have symptoms of measles, such as fever, cough, rash, the National Public Health Agency (ANSP) said.
An epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
Refugees are reportedly living in the center approximately 160 Ukrainians, more than 60 of them are children.
In total, eight cases of measles have been confirmed in Moldova since the beginning of the year.
According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Since the beginning of the war, Moldova has received more than 958 thousand Ukrainians. Now there are 113 thousand citizens of Ukraine there.
As Ukrinform reported, an outbreak of measles was recorded at a center for accommodation of refugees from Ukraine in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau.
