In the Rivne region, in the first two months of 2024, 111 patients with whooping cough were registered, which is 37 times more than in the same period last year.
The Rivne Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health reports this in a Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
«…The incidence of whooping cough For 2 months of this year, 111 patients were registered in the region (9.7 cases per 100 thousand people), and this is 37 times more than for the same period last year, the report says.
According to the center, whooping cough mainly affects children (108 cases).The most vulnerable age group is children under one year and from 1 to 4 years. The course of the disease is mainly of moderate severity (72% of all cases). The highest incidence is recorded in the Staroselsky territorial community of the Sarnensky district (149.6 cases per 100 thousand population).
It is emphasized that the main cause of incidence is failure to comply with preventive vaccinations. Among those sick this year, 73% are not vaccinated or do not have a regular vaccination against whooping cough. In 2023, only 53% of children over one year old were vaccinated against whooping cough with the DPT vaccine, and only 74.9% of children over two years old received revaccination against whooping cough. As Ukrinform reported, during 2023, 139 cases of whooping cough were registered in the Rivne region. The incidence rate was 12.1 out. per 100 thousand population and is one of the highest in the state.
