Photo At the Dnepropetrovsk Regional Medical Center for Family Health, the first highly complex kidney transplant operation was performed on a 15-year-old girl from her mother.

The head of the Dnepropetrovsk Regional Police Department, Sergei Lysak, announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

“The highly complex operation was performed at the Regional Medical Center for Family Health. This is the first transplantation for a child that was done in the Dnepropetrovsk region,” Lysak informed.

It is noted that 15-year-old Katya from Krivoy Rog received a kidney transplant from her mother. The kidney transplant operation lasted almost seven hours. At the same time, specialists worked in two operating rooms. Almost 30 doctors from the Dnepropetrovsk Medical Center for Family Health and Okhmatdyt took part in the operation. The girl underwent a transplant on Friday. And today doctors reported that she feels well and is already making plans for the future. The doctors' forecasts are optimistic.

After recovery and adjustments to therapy, mother and daughter will be able to return home, where they have not been for more than four months.

That is how long the family fought for Katya's life, when it turned out that her kidneys are disabled. The girl underwent many examinations, grueling dialysis procedures, and finally won.

As Ukrinform reported, in front-line Zaporozhye, doctors performed a highly complex operation – the first kidney transplant in 2024.
