In April 2024, Sanofi initiated clinical trials of a new mRNA-based vaccine targeting moderate to severe acne in adults. Around 400 volunteers between the ages of 18 and 45 are participating in the study. Participants will receive up to three doses of either the vaccine or a placebo to evaluate the treatment’s safety and efficacy. The study is expected to continue until 2027, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing Live Science.

Preliminary data shows that the vaccine uses mRNA technology, which instructs cells to produce proteins that activate an immune response. This method may help the body combat the Cutibacterium acnes bacteria, a major contributor to acne development. The goal is to reduce inflammation and improve skin condition in patients with more severe forms of acne.
