The bodies of 1,200 deceased individuals, reportedly Ukrainian citizens including military personnel, have been returned to Ukraine. The repatriation was carried out under agreements made in Istanbul, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

According to the Russian side, all the returned remains belong to Ukrainian citizens. Investigators from law enforcement agencies, together with forensic experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct the necessary examinations to establish the identities of the deceased.

The transportation of the repatriated bodies will be carried out by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Upon arrival at designated state specialized institutions, the bodies will be handed over to representatives of law enforcement and forensic medical experts under the Ministry of Health.

The return of the bodies became possible thanks to coordinated efforts by specialists from the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), and other security and defense sector agencies.
