An outbreak of measles was recorded at a center for refugees from Ukraine in the capital of Moldova, Chisinau.

Vladimir Bolokan, deputy chairman of the capital's department of medical and social assistance, announced this at a meeting of municipal services, Ukrinform reports with reference to NewsMaker.

According to him, five citizens of Ukraine, including children, were infected with measles. The first three cases were discovered in the middle of last week, and the next day the number of patients increased to five.

«All who became infected are citizens of Ukraine. The children were hospitalized in the infectious diseases hospital named after. Tom Chorba, their condition is stable,” the official added.

The center where the virus outbreak was recorded was quarantined for 21 days. “We took measures to contain the spread of the disease and introduced quarantine for 21 days from the moment the last case of measles was detected. If we identify new cases of infection these days, the quarantine will have to be extended, — Bolocan added.

At the same time, the official noted that he does not know whether those infected were vaccinated against measles.

As Ukrinform reported, the World Health Organization warned in January about the alarming rate of measles incidence in Europe, where a 30-fold increase was recorded.
