In January–November 2023, Ukraine increased exports of frozen blueberries to China by 4.7 times compared to the same period last year.
As Ukrinform reports, EastFruit reports this.
Ukraine's revenue from exports in this category amounted to $3.1 million. USA. For the first time, Ukraine entered the top seven suppliers of frozen fruits and berries to China and almost caught up with Poland, which occupies sixth position.
“Most likely, almost all of the export volume in this category comes from the supply of frozen blueberries, and, possibly, partially, wild blueberries. The fact is that Ukraine still has not received the opportunity to supply fresh blueberries to the Chinese market, but the supply of frozen blueberries became possible several years ago,” commented Andriy Yarmak, an economist at the investment department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
According to him, since there is no separate international HS code for frozen blueberries yet, and this category also includes all fruits without exception, including exotic ones, then if we discard fruits and exotics, Ukraine is most likely the third largest. supplier of frozen blueberries to China – after Chile and Poland.
At the same time, for Ukraine in 2023, China is the tenth largest market in this category of frozen fruits and berries. Poland remains the main sales market. Project analysts do not rule out that part of Polish exports of frozen blueberries to China are actually Ukrainian berries.
As Ukrinform reported, at the end of 2023, Ukraine entered the list of ten largest suppliers of fresh blueberries to the UK market, exporting 390 tons, which is 11% more than in the past.
