Ukraine exported 393 tons of frozen raspberries to Switzerland in January-November 2023, which is 86% more than in the same period last year.
As Ukrinform reports, EastFruit reports this.
“From January to November 2023 inclusive, Ukraine supplied 393 tons of frozen raspberries to Switzerland, which was 86% more than a year earlier, and 288 tons of other frozen berries, most likely wild blueberries, which was 63% more than for the same period in 2022. However, the biggest breakthrough occurred in the fresh blueberry segment, exports of which increased 16 times and reached 100 tons,” the report says.
It is noted that Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, so the food market in this country is very much protected from imports, and the requirements for product safety and quality are very high. Project analysts note that the first genuine success of suppliers from Ukraine in this market is an important milestone for the further development of Ukraine’s expansion into the world markets of fresh and frozen berries.
The sharp increase in supplies of berries to the Swiss market can be considered very important for strengthening the reputation of Ukraine not only as a supplier of affordable products, but also as a supplier of high quality berries. Let’s hope that Ukraine will be able to further increase investments in improving the quality of products in order to more fully use its natural and climatic advantages and have a reserve for increasing purchase prices for berries. This, in turn, will allow increasing investment in their cultivation,” explained Andrey Yarmak, economist at the investment department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
This year, in terms of the volume of frozen raspberries supplied to Switzerland, Ukraine entered the top five largest exporters, surpassing Chile. At the same time, none of the countries increased supplies at the same pace as Ukraine; in particular, Poland reduced exports of frozen raspberries to Switzerland during the reporting period by 24%.
Ukraine also supplied more blueberries to Switzerland than major European exporter Portugal. Over the same period, Poland was unable to increase its exports of fresh blueberries to Switzerland compared to last year, also due to growing competition from Ukraine.
As Ukrinform reported, Ukraine increased exports of frozen raspberries to the United States by 6 times in 2023.
