In Ukraine, potatoes have risen in price by 18% – EastFruit

В Україні картопля подоржчала на 18% - EastFruit

In Ukraine, potato prices rose to 14-18 UAH/kg ($0.37-0.48/kg), which is on average 18% more expensive than a week earlier.

As Ukrinform reports, EastFruit reports this.

It is noted that manufacturers justify the rise in prices in this segment for several reasons. First of all, the upward price trend is associated with a noticeable reduction in the supply of substandard products, since supplies from unequipped warehouses have fallen to a minimum. At the same time, the demand for quality potatoes continues to increase.

In addition, some large farms are still holding back sales of quality potatoes, counting on further price increases.

According to EastFruit, as of December 27, 2023, the cost of potatoes in Ukraine is already on average 3.6 times higher than at the end of December 2022. However, many market participants do not predict a weakening of trading activity in this segment in the near future.

Project analysts report that many farmers have announced their intention to continue to revise prices upward. They explain their decision by the active demand for high-quality potatoes. At the same time, the supply of such products on the market is somewhat limited, since some large farms are still holding back sales of high-quality potatoes in the hope of a further rise in price.

As Ukrinform reported, in Ukraine the wholesale price of potatoes increased 2.2 times over the year.
