The initiative is aimed at reducing the population's consumption of sugar.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Finance , tax and customs policy recommended the adoption of bill N9032-1, which would introduce an excise tax on drinks with added sugar (or other sweeteners or flavoring substances).
This was stated by the head of this committee, Daniil Getmantsev.
< p>In particular, Bill N9032-1 provides for:
- the introduction of an excise tax on drinks, including mineral and carbonated drinks, with added sugar or other sweetening or flavoring substances
- taxpayers are determined by producers and importers of drinks
< li>establishment of a specific tax rate of 0.1 euros per 1 liter of such a drink
The introduction of an excise tax on sugary drinks complies with European Union Directive 2020/262 from 19 December 2019.
“Incidentally, approximately 50 countries around the world have introduced taxes on sugary drinks in various forms, adapting broad global recommendations on the use of fiscal policy into its specific context and “innovatively” implementing tax policy to achieve healthcare goals,” added Getmantsev.
According to the calculations of the Ministry of Economy, the price of drinks will increase by about 4 UAH per liter.
Let us remind you that in Ukraine, rates on basic taxes may be raised as early as 2024 – such a decision was prepared by the government. And from 2025, taxes will also increase for individual entrepreneurs. The purpose of such changes is to balance the budget, the possibility of continuing the defense of Ukraine, as well as insistence on the part of international partners.
From July 1, the excise tax on fuel will be returned in Ukraine: what will the additional withdrawn money be used for?
