Carrots have become the most expensive vegetable in the borscht set, even pushing potatoes aside.
Food prices in Ukraine continue to rise, in particular, carrots have been rising in price for the fourth week.
This is reported by the specialized publication EastFruit.
According to analysts, carrot prices have increased by 11% over the course of the week. Now it is sold at a price of 20 to 28 hryvnia per kilogram, which is the highest price in the last 7 years. And compared to last year's prices at the beginning of November, carrots have risen in price by an average of 3.7 times.
Experts note that the reason for the rapid growth in carrot prices is the unfavorable weather for farmers, due to which the harvest was disappointing. In some regions, farmers collected only 50% of the expected harvest, and its quality was far from desired. That is why the market now mostly sells “medium quality” carrots, which do not meet the needs of all buyers.
Recall that in Ukraine there is a decrease in potato prices. Last week, sellers managed to keep selling prices at a fairly high level, but trade activity gradually decreased.
