Pegging the hryvnia to the euro: an expert explained how this will affect Ukrainians

Almost all transactions are made in hryvnia – this is more than 99%.

Pegging the hryvnia to the euro will not affect ordinary citizens, because the vast majority of their transactions are carried out in the national currency. In turn, such a transition will simplify the work of subjects of foreign economic activity.

This was reported by Oleg Pendzin, a member of the Economic Discussion Club, KIEV24 reports.

“We are not talking about replacing the currency system. We are not talking about the fact that only the euro will circulate in Ukraine. We are talking about pegging. Today we are pegged to the dollar. Re-pegging the currency is a very long-term process. For ordinary citizens, nothing will change in any way,” he said.

We remind you that Ukraine plans to replace the dollar with the euro, in particular, to form the hryvnia exchange rate. At the same time, they promise to make the transition smooth, almost imperceptible. But the specific dates for the implementation of these changes are still unknown.

According to the NBU, the rise in the dollar exchange rate in Ukraine and, accordingly, the weakening of the hryvnia are due to seasonal factors, and the fluctuations themselves are insignificant and will not affect the currency market.
