Ukrainians who have received legal rights to live and work in Europe have contributed to the development of the economy.

Ukrainian refugees who have found work in Central and Eastern European countries have become an important factor in the achieved economic growth. Their return home after peace is established in Ukraine will damage the economies of these countries.

This is reported by Reuters.

According to estimates by Raiffeisen Bank International, economic growth in Central and Eastern Europe last year amounted to 2.2%, which is higher than the bank’s forecast for the eurozone of 0.8%.

Ukrainians who have received legal rights to live and work in Europe have contributed to this dynamic thanks to the rapid expansion of production and exports in the region.

According to Eurostat, of the 4.3 million people who fled the war in Ukraine to the EU by December 2023, 22% were in Poland and about 9% in the Czech Republic.

“Part of the economic success in many countries is due to the Ukrainians who have moved there in the last two years,” says Christian Petter, head of Austria and Central and Eastern Europe at J. Safra Sarasin.

Loss these workers may lead to a labor shortage, which will directly affect labor markets and inflation processes.

Recall that some EU countries, where Ukrainian refugees fled after the war, are interested in them staying there and finding work.
