One of the reasons for the rise in vegetable prices is the lack of reserves in the winter.
In Ukraine, in February and March 2025, food prices are expected to rise, especially vegetables.
Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denis Marchuk spoke about this, writes Glavred.
Prices for bread and dairy products are expected to gradually rise. This is due to several factors:
- inflation;
- seasonal fluctuations;
- excise taxes on fuel, which began to affect prices at the beginning of 2025.
Due to the war, there is an increase in the cost of food, since mobilization limits the availability of labor. As a result, producers are forced to invest in equipment, which increases the cost of production.
“These factors determine the formation of prices for the coming months, up until the moment when we start receiving fresh vegetables, fruits and dairy products in the new season, the volumes of which will increase thanks to the “big milk” season. Unfortunately, it is too early to talk about price reductions,” he said.
Marchuk noted that temporary price reductions are possible for some vegetables, such as onions and carrots, but this will be a short-term phenomenon. In a few weeks, there will be a supply shortage again, which will lead to higher prices.
According to him, food prices in Ukraine are expected to rise by 10-15%, but this will happen gradually – by 1.5-2% or 3% monthly.
