Prices are rising due to a decrease in the sunflower harvest, a milk shortage and high world prices for butter, but eggs may become cheaper.
In Ukraine, food prices will rise with a difference in forecasts from 10-15% to 50% or more, but some products will become cheaper.
This was reported by agricultural expert Larisa Guk, writes ZN.ua.
According to her, in December 2024 inflation exceeded the National Bank's forecasts, reaching 12%. The decrease in the sunflower harvest affects the price of sunflower oil, and it is likely that its price increase will be expected in the first half of the year.
There is a shortage of raw milk in Ukraine, which affects the prices of dairy products. High prices for butter on the world market provide large profits for producers, so the cost of butter in supermarkets does not fall below 100 UAH. In the first half of the year, prices for butter will remain high, but in the future they will depend on global trends.
She noted that bread prices continue to rise slowly, especially for fresh baked goods. Chicken eggs, after an autumn rise to UAH 8, began to fall in price due to an unsuccessful attempt by producers to export.
“By the way, Ukraine actively sold eggs for export last year and earned more than 100 million in foreign currency,” she said.
Buckwheat prices are rising, but have not yet reached the December 2022 record (UAH 75/kg). Salt, buckwheat, onions, and potatoes are on the list of products that may repeat or exceed previous records.
Recall that we previously wrote that food prices, especially vegetables, are expected to rise in Ukraine in February and March 2025.
