It won't get any cheaper: what to expect from food prices in 2025

It won't get cheaper: what to expect from food prices in 2025

Consumer prices are growing faster than the National Bank expected.

Prices in Ukraine will only grow. In particular, milk is becoming more expensive due to a shortage, and butter is already difficult to find for less than 100 hryvnia.

This was reported by Larisa Guk, an expert in agriculture at the AGRO PERSPECTIVE information and analysis center.

According to her, the following products will not bypass the price increase:

  • bread, primarily fresh baked goods and lavash
  • buckwheat
  • carrots
  • potatoes
  • cabbage

The price of chicken eggs, on the contrary, is falling. The expert linked this to the lack of active demand and limited shelf life.

The expert also noted that consumer prices are growing faster than the National Bank expected.

“Vegetables, fruits, sugar, vegetable oil and flour are at risk because they are needed daily. At the same time, purchasing power is declining, so demand for basic products is growing,” she explained.

Recall that annual inflation in Ukraine has grown by 12% over the past year, including 1.4% in December (compared to the previous month). This is evidenced by data from the State Statistics Service.

Prices for food and housing and communal services, education and health in 2024 have increased, but prices for clothing and footwear have decreased. Economists say that global factors played a significant role in this.
