Daniil Getmantsev emphasized that even if Ukraine joins the EU, the euro does not necessarily start to circulate in Ukraine.
It is too early to talk about the introduction of the euro into circulation in Ukraine before 2035.
This was stated in an interview with “Ukrainian News” by Danylo Getmantsev, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction and chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy.
“That is why it is definitely It is too early to talk about this and even if we join the European Union, we will not be able to talk about it before 2035. You know, it is a fairy-tale scenario that the euro will appear in Ukraine in 2035,” the MP said.
Getmantsev emphasized that even if we join the EU, the euro will not necessarily start circulating in Ukraine.
The MP gave the example that Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania are in no hurry to switch to the euro, and Denmark, when joining the EU, agreed not to abandon its own currency.
Sweden held a referendum in which people refused to circulate the euro and the issue is “hanging,” he noted.
Daniil Getmantsev also said that only during the transition period is it possible for the national currency (hryvnia) and the euro to circulate simultaneously.
Earlier, the expert said whether the dollar exchange rate in Ukraine will return to 20 or 30 hryvnia.
