The government explained whether the “teacher thousand” will lead to a reduction in the minimum salary supplement

 The government explained whether the

The “teacher thousand” will not affect the subsidy to the minimum wage.

Since January 1, 2025, Ukrainian teachers have started receiving a “teacher's thousand” – an additional payment of UAH 1,300 (UAH 1,000 after taxation), and from September it will increase to UAH 2,600 (UAH 2,000 after taxation).

This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

However, it is important to note that this payment will not affect the subsidy up to the minimum wage that teaching staff receive in the event of low earnings.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1515, additional payment for work in unfavorable working conditions is not taken into account when calculating the amount of wages to ensure its minimum level. If a teacher's salary is below the minimum (UAH 8,000 as of February 2025), the employer makes an additional payment up to this level, and the “teacher's thousand” is accrued additionally.

Therefore, this additional payment is accrued in addition to the minimum wage, as indicated in the letter of the Ministry of Education and Science dated December 31, 2024.

For example, if a teacher without a category and work experience, who receives a minimum bonus for prestige (5%) and does not perform additional duties for which additional payments are provided (for example, class management, checking work, managing an office or working in an inclusive class), with a workload of 18 hours a week, his monthly salary will be UAH 7,269.57. In this case, the teacher should be paid up to the minimum wage of UAH 730.43.

From January 1, 2025, an additional payment of UAH 1,300 is provided for unfavorable working conditions. As a result, the salary will be UAH 9,300 (UAH 8,000 + UAH 1,300).

Earlier, we reported how teachers' salaries have changed over three years.
