Following the results of last year, 1 million of these banknotes accounted for 5.1 fakes, which is less than in 2021 (7.1). Most often, banknotes were faked with a face value of 500 and 200 hryvnias. Banknotes of a new sample account for only 5.5% of all seized fakes.
“This is due to the fact that the banknotes of the national currency of the modern generation, in particular by the nominal 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 hryvnias, which the National Bank introduced into circulation in 2015-2020, have an improved Design and enhanced protection system, ”the report said.
Foreign currencies also became the object of fakes, although their number remained low. The US dollars (93%) and euros (7%) were most faked. To prevent fakes, the National Bank recommends carrying out currency exchange operations only through licensed exchange points.
