In Ukraine this week, due to increased demand, selling prices for carrots increased by an average of 10% and amounted to 27-34 UAH/kg.
As reported by Ukrinform, analysts from the EastFruit project reported this.
Thus, Ukrainian farms are currently managing to ship carrots in the range of 27-34 UAH/kg (0.65-0.82 USD/kg), which is on average 10% more expensive than the week before. Several factors at once allow farmers to increase selling prices in this segment,” the report says.
In particular, carrots are actively bought up by both wholesale companies and retail chains, which is why this contributes to the price increase. At the same time, the supply of quality root crops on the market is somewhat limited, because farms have suspended sales in anticipation of another price increase.
Despite the fact that carrots in Ukraine are currently on average 3.6 times more expensive than during the same period last year, market participants assume that the upward price trend may be temporary.
They believe that further price increases could motivate farmers to start selling carrots from storage, which would lead to increased supplies and, as a result, lower prices.
As reported, Ukrainian farmers have begun selling off their existing onion stocks en masse due to the rapid deterioration of the quality of the produce in local storage facilities.
