Ukrainian farmers are revising previously set prices for the existing batch of products.
The rise in potato prices that was observed on the Ukrainian market at the end of winter stopped in March, which was caused by a decline in trading activity in this segment.
This was reported by analysts from the EastFruit project.
Ukrainian farmers are cutting prices on potatoes despite the fact that local storage facilities are already running low.
“Thus, if a week earlier the prices for potatoes of the corresponding quality in Ukraine often reached 30 UAH/kg ($0.73/kg), then today they are already in the range of 18-28 UAH/kg ($0.44-0.68/kg), which is on average 10% cheaper than at the end of last week,” the report says.
Why Potato Prices Are Changing in Ukraine
Manufacturers explain the price “swings” by the unwillingness of buyers to accept products for sale at such prices.
In the first week of March, potato prices in Ukraine are on average 18% higher than at the beginning of March 2024. Moreover, a number of producers are confident that the decline in potato prices is temporary. There is a shortage of quality products on the market, as potato stocks in households and commercial producers continue to rapidly decrease.
Let us recall that the price of the popular vegetable has decreased in Ukraine. One of the reasons for this situation was the rather weak interest of wholesale companies and retail chains in purchasing this product.
