The rise in egg prices is due to objective reasons.
Problems on the Polish market may lead to a short-term increase in egg prices in Ukraine, but no significant price increases are expected.
Agronews writes about this.
According to Maksym Gopko, an analyst at the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB) association, the number of chickens in Ukraine has remained at last year's level, which helps contain sharp price fluctuations.
Ukraine is the largest supplier of eggs to the EU, so the increase in exports to Poland could affect the domestic market, although only to a small extent.
As of March 7, the cost of a dozen eggs ranges from 62.99 to 72.3 UAH. Unpackaged eggs cost an average of 5.57 UAH per piece.
The main factor that can temporarily affect the cost of eggs is Easter, which Ukrainians will celebrate on April 20. Traditionally, during this period, the demand for eggs grows, which can cause a short-term increase in prices.
However, experts emphasize that there will be no significant price increases in the near future.
Let us recall that in the fall of 2024, egg prices rose sharply. In November, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine began an investigation into possible collusion among egg producers.
Annual inflation in Ukraine has grown by 12% over the past year, including 1.4% in December (compared to the previous month). This is evidenced by data from the State Statistics Service.
Prices for food and housing and utilities, education and health in 2024 increased, while prices for clothing and footwear decreased. Economists say that global factors played a significant role in this.
