Pension in Ukraine: Who will have their payments cut in half

The reduction of payments will be made on the basis of court decisions, orders and sentences.

Starting from March 2025, pensions in Ukraine may be reduced by up to 50%, despite indexation. The reduction in payments will be made on the basis of court decisions, rulings and sentences.

This was reported by the publication “Expert”.

According to the new provisions, up to 50% of pension payments may be withheld in the event of:

  • alimony – for the maintenance of family members (children, ex-wives/husbands, parents)
  • compensation for damages – if a pensioner has caused damage to an individual (for example, in the event of injury or death of the victim)
  • compensation for damage to enterprises – if the pensioner previously worked for the company, caused material damage and is obliged to compensate for it through the court

In addition, pensioners who hide their employment status risk losing up to 20% of their pension. If a pensioner continues to work and does not report this to the Pension Fund of Ukraine, their payments may be recalculated taking into account the withholding of funds.

As reported, pension indexation has been completed in Ukraine. Payments for most pensioners have increased. Preliminary, pensions of Ukrainians will be indexed by 11.5% this year.
