The European Union is discussing a new plan for the expansion of the gas superpipe between Slovakia and Ukraine, which will allow the great supply of Ukrainian underground reservoirs to gas.

The proposal, first discussed by the European Commissioners during their visit to Kiev last month, could alleviate the wrath of Slovakia through the waste of revenues from energy resources after the rupture of gas transit agreements between Ukraine and Russia near Sichnya. This benefit ensured the supply of gas to the EU, as Slovakia collected up to 500 million euros per river for its transit.
According to two members of the European Commission and the EU, the Commission is now developing a plan that could help restore gas supplies to Slovakia.
This scheme would eliminate the need to buy gas from Russia, which is blocked within the framework of the plan for the REPowerEU block, which will gradually introduce gas imports from Moscow until 2027. Instead, Ukraine will increase gas imports from Greece and Turkey and save up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas from its storage facilities, Dzherel said.
Then these flows would pass through Slovak pipelines to such regions as Ugorshchina, if the supply is low.
According to the words of the European Commission official, “we will again establish Slovakia as a transit country,” which would also be a “red line” for Brussels.
“This is consistent with the objectives of REPowerEU,” said an unnamed Commission official.
As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready to transit gas to European countries in the event that gas will not come from Russia.
