An investigation by the European Commission revealed that, over 15 years, 16 key auto manufacturing companies and ACEA reached anti-competitive territory and favored the ELV recycling industry.

The squeeze was felt by companies such as BMW, Ford, Honda, Hyundai / Kai, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Opel, General Motors, Renault / Nissan, Stellantis, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, Geely, and ACEA. The Mercedes-Benz company, which broke the cartel structure, denied further immunity from the squeeze, which could have cost €35 million.

Stellantis (including Opel), Mitsubishi and Ford have eliminated reductions in the size of the contract as a result of smooth cooperation with the European Commission in the investigation.

The greatest squeeze among companies was found in Volkswagen – €127,696,000.

In addition, individuals or companies that have suffered as a result of the known cartel crime can submit appeals to national courts in EU member states for payment of similar compensation.

As has already been reported, the European Commission regularly conducts investigations into the abuse of market conditions and the violation of market competition rules. European and international companies that go to such lengths may be subject to such restrictions.
