“In 2023, NAEK fully fulfilled its obligations within the framework of the PSO to provide the population with affordable electricity. Thanks to a quick and high-quality repair campaign, it was possible to increase electricity production at the nuclear power plant. Consequently, Energoatom had the opportunity to make payments for PSO,” the company said in a statement.

As noted by the acting chairman of the board of JSC NNEGC Energoatom, Petr Kotin, a repair campaign was carried out at each of the nine power units , it was completed earlier than planned and without compromising the quality of work.

“The pace of this campaign made it possible to earn 4 billion UAH, which, in particular, were aimed at implementing the PSO. Now all power units are overloaded with fresh nuclear fuel and have been providing heat and light to millions of Ukrainians for almost half of the winter,” Kotin emphasized.

Since the beginning of 2023, Energoatom has paid 127.99 to the State Enterprise “Guaranteed Buyer” for the PSO service. billion UAH, while the expected cost was more than 7 billion UAH less. Thanks to this, the company last year managed to reduce the total debt for payment of PSO services by almost UAH 4 billion.

The company recalled that Energoatom covers about 85% of the financial burden necessary to fulfill special obligations for the provision of public interests.

The operation of the PSO in Ukraine was extended until April 30, 2024. This decision was made to reduce the financial burden on household consumers due to the difficult economic situation as a result of Russia’s full-scale military aggression. Consequently, the price of electricity for the population will continue to be 2.64 UAH per kWh.
