The Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading bill No. 11340 on an agreement with the investigation in proceedings on corruption crimes. According to the document, if a plea agreement is concluded, officials suspected of corruption will be able to avoid imprisonment and further investigation by paying only a fine.

What are the amounts of fines
- from UAH 204 thousand to UAH 2.05 million when committing a criminal offense; from UAH 2.05 million to UAH 20.4 million when committing a minor crime; from UAH 20.4 million to UAH 102 million in case of committing a serious crime; from UAH 102 million to UAH 204 million when committing a particularly serious crime.
What will this give to corrupt officials?
If the bill is adopted, top corrupt officials will be able to legally buy off their prison sentences even without full compensation for damages – you can simply pay part of the amount.
In addition, this document allows caught corrupt officials not to expose accomplices and information about other crimes.
The bill was initiated by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal and supported by 231 people’s deputies.
National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the specialized anti-corruption prosecutor's office and the parliamentary Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy opposed the bill.
