Turkey has blocked access to the social media platform Instagram, causing the platform's mobile app to also become inaccessible. This was reported by the Turkish Information Technology and Communications Authority, Reuters reports.

It is noted that the Turkish regulator did not indicate the reasons and duration of the Instagram ban.
The blocking of the social network followed after Turkish communications official Fahrettin Altun criticized Instagram on Wednesday for its decision to block posts with condolences over the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, a key official in the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
“This is censorship, pure and simple,” Altun said.
